Simple R III – Powerful, revolutionary replay server

Simple R III is the newest replay server working with a large number of incoming video signals and aimed at solving almost any task. Like all Simple R servers, it is compact (1U, 40 cm), lightweight, suitable for hand luggage.

Simple R III is equipped with 16 bi-directional SDI I/O.

In its basic configuration, it supports 882 mode (8 recording + 8 search + 2 playback channels + FX) for HD resolutions.

The top configuration provides:

  • For HD: Up to 12 recording + 12 search + 2 playback channels + FX;
  • For 3G: 6 recording + 6 search + 2 playback channels + FX.

2 independent workplaces

Simple R III is the only server that can accommodate a second workplace. It is possible to use the Simple R III as 2 independent servers, each of which operates in 662 mode: 6 Rec + 6 Search + 2 Play + FX (PGM + PVW outputs). Both users can exchange clips and playlists. This feature is available only on the top servers from other manufacturers.

Support for SSM cameras. Hybrid configurations

The Simple R servers are integrated with Super Slow Motion cameras from most manufacturers, providing support for 2x, 3x, 4x SuperMo (e.g. Panasonic AK-UC4000), Xtra Motion 6x (GVG LDX-86 HS/XS) and HyperMotion (1000FPS Ikegami HiMotion-II) cameras. The number of required SDI inputs depends on the camera shooting speed.

Thanks to the second workplace option, it is possible to work with different speed cameras connected to one server (hybrid configurations).

For example:

  • The first workplace – two 3x or three 2x SuperMo cameras; second workplace – 662 mode;
  • The first workplace – two 4x or four 2x SuperMo cameras; second workplace – 442 mode.

Note, that the first number in configuration indicates the number of recording channels, the second one is the number of search channels and the last one is the number of playback channels. (Because the search can be done on all recording channels simultaneously, the number of search channels always equals the number of recording channels).

Recording for NLE

In addition to the great replay capabilities at shows and sports events, the Simple R III server supports recording of video material to internal storage for subsequent export, as well as recording for NLE by the DMR™ technology (optional).

When recording for NLE, the server supports the following modes of operation:

  • Recording of 6 channels with XDCAM codec to NAS;
  • Recording of 8 channels with ProRes 422, DNxHD, DVCPRO HD codecs using DMR™ option which includes external 1U 4 racks unit for standard 3.5" SATA HDDs;
  • Recording of 12 channels with DCT-based I-Frame codec on internal storage for subsequent export with ProRes 422, DNxHD, DVCPRO HD, XDCAM50, AVC-I, XAVC codecs.

DMR™ (Direct Movie Record) – Multi-channel recording direct in NLE native file formats with absolute material protection

The proprietary DMR™ technology - recording into native files of non-linear editing systems is the unique feature of slomo.tv servers. When working with the DMR™ server records video using selected codec (ProRes; AVID DNxHD; DVCPro HD; DVCPro 50; IMX; XDCAM 50; AVC-Intra 100/XAVC) to a built-in video array in a specially developed fail-safe high reliability file format and in native files of NLE systems on any available file storage.

Thanks to simultaneous recording to the built-in array and to any file media, the material is duplicated. This ensures that the recorded material is kept safe. Typically, recording is performed on 3.5" SATA HDDs installed in specialized toolless/trayless racks. For recording for NLE, an external 1U device with 4 DMR™ racks (DMR™ Station) is used, which is connected via USB 3.0. Recording can also be performed to a NAS via 1GbE interface.

Support for "growing files"

The server supports work with "growing files" (MXF, XDCAM 50). Usually MXF "growing files" are recorded to a NAS, connected to the editing systems supporting such technology (for example, Adobe Premiere). This allows editing of video material right after the start of the recording.

SDX – High-speed SD card reader

The available SDX option adds an 8-channel, super high-speed USB 3.0 SD card reader. SD cards are used for exporting and importing video materials, as well as for recording to H.264 Proxy or ProRes standards.

SSD-based subsystem

Simple R III servers have SSD-based disk arrays. The use of SSD makes the systems more robust, especially when searching on all channels simultaneously. It also makes the system more reliable when working in harsh conditions like heavy vibration. The built-in storage capacity can be up to 400 hours of HD video 100Mbit (built-in storage expansion option).

3 graphics ports

Availability of 3 graphics ports allows connecting up to 3 monitors, which can be used to display the Main Interface, Multiviewer, as well as Game Analyzer (Telestrator). Provides comfortable work for the operator if there is enough space available.

Replay consoles

Control ZR replay console

The server comes with Control ZR replay console.

Control ZR is designed for maximum speed and efficiency. It has 51 RGB backlit buttons with light and color indication providing hints for the operator. The T-bar provides over 1000 values of lever position. The control panel provides direct access to 24 cameras in replay mode.The console can be equipped with Sony Jog/Shuttle or the Jog/Shuttle by slomo.tv. The Shuttle wheel has 64 left and right positions, which allows you to control the search speed and the playback speed with an accuracy of up to 2%. Control console can be connected via RS232/422, USB and Ethernet. It is powered by PoE, as well as by USB.
