For the NAB Show 2019 slomo.tv have updated the software for its servers. The unique feature of the updated software is the ability to work with and play of both the main and alternative independent Playlists.

All slomo.tv systems are based on 2 main ideas: ease of use and wide functionality. Particular attention is paid to the high speed of the basic operations, which is the key to high performance of the complex. So the standard operation of clip marking the and adding it to the Playlist on slomo.tv servers takes 25% less time than on other systems and requires to press only 3 buttons on the replay console.

After the software update, a new and important function of simultaneous work with 2 independent Playlists in the replay mode was added.

Now when using a configuration with 2 SDI outputs, it is possible to play 2 independent Playlists at the same time, which can be useful on live broadcasts and various shows.

The desire to make the workflow of the replay operator as effective as possible led to the implementation of the simultaneous editing function of 2 independent Playlists. This feature allows the replay operator to add clips to both the main and alternative Playlist without switching between them. A replay operator can create a second alternative Playlist dedicated to, for example, a key person of a sports event or rules violations in parallel with the creation of the main Summary/Highlights during the broadcast.

You can get acquainted with the novelty at the stand #SL3829 at NAB Show 2019.

4K instant replay server now supports 662 and 772 configurations for replays.

At NAB (booth SL3829), Slomo.tv will launch its second generation Fulcrum AT/12G 4K instant replay server. Representing one of Slomo.tv's most advanced replay server systems, this new version of Slomo.tv's flagship 4K platform offers broadcast production companies 10 channels in replay mode at 4K resolution and up to 16 channels in replay mode for 3G/HD/SD. Highlighting its cost-efficiency, the company is offering Fulcrum for USD $60,000 during April 2019.

The compact 4K server system enables advanced slow motion and instant replay capabilities as well as direct recording of NLE native video files for editing 'on site'. Search is available on all recorded channels simultaneously with recording and playing back of 2 channels with transition effects. The automatic creation of clips during instant replays is a Slomo.tv proprietary feature, which allows the operator to quickly create highlights/summary packages while working in instant replay mode.

First presented at NAB Show 2018, Fulcrum AT/12G shows the best price/functionality ratio among 4K broadcast grade servers.

Initially Fulcrum AT/12G provided 442 (4REC+4SEARCH+2PLAY+FX) configuration for all resolutions (4K/3G/HD), the improved Fulcrum AT/12G not only supports 442 mode for 4K, but also has 662 and 772 (with one physical SDI output) configurations for 3G/HD. This means that the system records 6 or 7 3G/HD channels, plays back 2 channels with the transition effect and simultaneously searches on all 6 or 7 recorded channels.

The increase in the number of channels allowed having SuperMo option. One Fulcrum AT/12G server processes the video signal from up to 3 SuperMotion cameras.

Fulcrum AT/12G features include:

  • Unique channel combination for working with 4K and 3G/HD.
  • Support of 4K/3G/HD/1280p formats.
  • Proprietary DMR™ technology enables recording of up to 8 channels with Apple ProRes/AVID DNxHD/XDCAM50/DVCProHD/AVC Intra 100 codecs into NLE native files formats. As such it mitigates content export. For 4K resolution, 3 channels can be recorded using DMR™ technology with Apple ProRes codec.
  • The video material is directly recorded on standard 3.5" SATA hard drives ToolLess/TrayLess installed in 4 DMR™ Racks located on the front panel or on a network attached storage system connected via 10GbE local network.
  • DMR™ technology provides simultaneous recording of both full resolution video files and SD Proxy files, which significantly increases the speed and comfort of editing and MXF XDCAM50 – growing file support.
  • Fulcrum offers a broad set of broadcast options and features: SuperMo, ExtraMo and HyperMo cameras support, 10 GbE replay networking, multi-channel DMR™ Apple ProRes, DNxHD, XDCAM50, AVC-100, XAVC, H264 recording and telestrator.
  • Integrated SSD storage capacity of 133 hours of HD video, which can be increased by a factor of four.
  • A built-in Multiviewer features five basic configurations of different numbers of video feeds – displaying video inputs, search channels, and system video outputs. Developed specifically for cramped production environments where space-saving is at a premium, a MultiSkin function allows the operator to use one monitor to display different interfaces: the main GUI interface, Multiviewer or Game Analyzer (telestrator).

Fulcrum is compact and lightweight 4U – 56 cm and 18.5 kg form factor making it ideal for fly-away and OB environments.

At SVG Football Summit 2019 slomo.tv sponsored the session where match directors Sarah Cheadle from Sky Sport and Grant Phillips Director/Executive producer have shared the secrets of their storytelling success.

Slomo.tv - Fair play for everyone. Any sport, any budget.

TORRANCE, CA (February, 2019) - Nowadays no high-level sports broadcast can handle without Super Motion cameras. Therefore, all TV companies specializing in sports broadcasting and sports arenas face the issue of finding the optimal solution to «cover» their needs. The number of solutions - server + camera - for these purposes is limited in the market, and in most cases they significantly "hit" the budgets of companies.

The release of Panasonic's 4x Super Motion camera AK-HC5000 with a surprisingly affordable price was enthusiastically welcomed by the market.

Because of the growing number of requests on support of this camera slomo.tv successfully integrated its multichannel recording and slow-motion replay servers with Panasonic AK-HC5000 camera in 2017 including the most affordable broadcast grade server Arrow-II. The solution based on Arrow-II server and 4x Super Motion camera Panasonic AK-HC5000 was the most cost effective solution for Super Motion on the market.

This joint solution significantly reduced the users’ costs and the entry barrier into 4x Super Motion broadcasting and replays.

The release of the Panasonic 4K/4X SuperMotion AK-UC4000 camera in 2018 led to integration of all slomo.tv servers with this camera in all Super Motion modes. The difference between AK-UC4000 and its predecessor is that it supports several Super Motion formats -2x, 3x, 4x - both for progressive (1080p) and for interlaced (1080i) modes.

New Super Motion modes of Panasonic's AK-UC4000 made it possible to use one Arrow-II server with one 4x or 3x camera or with two 2x cameras in 1080p video format. In interlaced mode (1080i), you can work with one 4x, two 3x or three 2x cameras.

As since 2018 a basic configuration of all slomo.tv servers includes free Transfer (networking) option, which provides the exchange of clips and Playlists between servers, all clips from servers that work with Super Motion cameras are available for creating Summary/Highlights on other servers without additional hardware or software options.

The price of the starter kit for Panasonic AK-UC4000 camera in the 1080i mode is €24,200.

Starter kit price for Panasonic AK-UC4000/AK-HC5000 cameras in the 1080p mode (including the 3G-SDI option) is €26,700.

You can get acquainted with the novelty at the stand #SL3829.

Slomo.tv and Panasonic - Joint solution for 4x SuperMotion

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2019!

Slomo.tv’s active cooperation with international sports federations on implementation of video judging in various sports has led to the use of videoReferee® solutions in Wrestling.

The United World Wrestling (UWW), that brings together more than 180 national federations of Freestyle, Greco-Roman Wrestling, Women's Wrestling, Pankration, Alysh, Beach Wrestling, etc., chose the compact videoReferee®-SR systems of video judging for its international competitions and signed a contract for supply of three systems for use at the 2018 Senior Wrestling World Championships held in the «Papp László Sports Arena» in Budapest. In October 2018 the Hungarian capital hosted the competition among Greco-Roman and Freestyle wrestlers.

The signing of the contract was preceded by testing of the system at the 2018 Junior World Championships in Freestyle, Greco-Roman and Women Wrestling in Trnava (Slovakia). The judges highly evaluated the usability of the system, and the United World Wrestling remained pleased with the results of the test.

The individual approach of slomo.tv specialists to each customer requirements and regulation of each sport or a single competition resulted in modifying each videoReferee®-SR system to support 2 fully independent workplaces for judges, each working with 4 cameras on his wrestling mat. Thus, one compact 1U server allows carrying out the video judging of two parallel rounds.

This modification became one of the decision-making factors for the United World Wrestling in choosing Slomo.tv. SSD based storage, low weight and compact size of the videoReferee®-SR allow the system to be used as a mobile solution for frequent travel and competition venue changing.

From the very beginning of discussion about implementation of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in football, the most popular sport in the world, IFAB and FIFA regularly held various events dedicated to the VAR technology, analysis and discussion of the procedures, processes and education programs for VAR specialists.

Since 2016 slomo.tv collaborates with the International Football Association (IFAB) in the field of implementation of video assistant referee technologies and processes in football. Slomo.tv is included in the official FIFA list of inspected VAR technology providers.

As one of the technology provider, the company regularly participates in IFAB/FIFA events dedicated to VAR, including workshops held in the FIFA headquarter in Zurich.

From 22 to 25 October for the first time in history FIFA held at its headquarters the "VAR Instructor Course".

The main goal of the course was to train the representatives of football federations of more than 20 countries details of using the VAR. The training included theoretical and practical classes. For the practical part technology providers installed their systems so that potential users could get the practical experience of working with the various VAR systems and evaluate them.

Slomo.tv provided a 12-channel compact (1U, 5kg) videoReferee®-SR; a compact video judging system incorporated into standard replay controller "Ripley"; and a new modification of its videoReferee®-FC. The system allows working with 32 3G channels and provides two completely independent workplaces for replay operators (RO). (Extended videoReferee®-FC configuration supports up to 4 workplaces).

The referees had the opportunity to work with live video signals captured from the FIFA training field, where young athletes (U17) constantly created "reviewable" controversial moments. Also 24 channels video from real matches was provided to videoReferee®-FC from the slomo.tv’s «Academy» system, designed for training operators and referee assistants.

Representatives of the football leagues and federations gave high marks to the accuracy and speed of decision-making process using the slomo.tv videoReferee® systems. Powerful servers, well-designed interfaces and control panels, as well as 2 independent workplaces allowed the replay operators (ROs) to review the controversial moments faster than with other systems.
